Lovely bright gold. Pour and let it sit a bit and then there’s scents of lemon/peach meringue pie, mild bit of pineapple & mango, summer rained on granite, honeycomb, and smoke. I already know I’m going to really enjoy this…and yep, I sure do! Sipping a tango of lemon/key lime & zest with mango, young peach/apricot, and as it continues to warm pie spice, a bite of parsley, salt, smoke, and that taste of fresh honeycomb (I remember as a kid) from my Poppa’s hives and now I realize where that smoke light taste comes from when I tasted the comb. It’s from when he had to smoke the bees out to get to the honey.

Dark ruby and good unfiltered detritus. Sniffing and there’s cherries, raspberries, dried figs, sandalwood, a bit of funky spice you smell being burned in freshman college dorms (you know what I’m talking about), and a smidge of pine. Sipping and it’s a juicy fun jumble of cherries (all sorts & some more tart than others), plums, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, pinch of light orange zest, and a poof of smoke. This is an easy super friendly wine that calls for small pours to let it breathe through the evening, and don’t forget to bring some tapas.

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: brings out a bit of clove

Well, it appears I missed the bus on this winery. The team has gone their separate ways, and here I am looking at this half bottle and realizing I might not find another one! Argh, I’m going to start crying. Am hoping I can track another one down and it’s not as elusive as the Sasquatch on the label. Maybe I’ll get lucky like the former cop in PA who spotted Bigfoot tracks in Dec. 2022. BTW do you know about the The Whitehall (NY) Sasquatch Festival & Calling Contest? It draws 2,500+ people each year, and the one coming up is Saturday, September 30, 2023. Yellow with light green shimmer. Let it breathe, it needs room. Trust me and you’ll start smelling pâte à choux, fresh & baked pears, melon, apricots, almonds, and a touch of slate. Next up sipping that melon again, lemon/lime, orange zest, honeysuckle, apricots, firm pears, a grapefruit greyhound splash, and a sprinkle of salt. Lovely and full of grace.

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: delicious and delightful

I think I may have a new reason to pack my bags and “Going Back to Cali”. Spirits Alley (Alameda Point) definitely looks…well…up my alley. Dashe Cellars resides there along with other distilleries, breweries, and wineries. What a fabulous use for an old Naval Air Station, and what a great way to spend a day wandering (and hopefully not weaving and wobbling). Also if you visit on the 1st Sunday of the month, you can do one of my other favorite pastimes that I know I will have to bribe my S.O. to do, shopping at an antique faire. Ok, maybe it will take a big bribe of a trunk load of IPAs 🍺 because Alameda Point Antiques Faire is the largest antiques show in Northern California. Think of the treasures you can find from the booths, bottles, and by the glass! Cheers!

Deep purple with some ruby goodness. This is one of those wines where you take a deep breath and oh this is everything…bright and deep cherries, dark plums/prunes, blueberries, balsamic whiff, vanilla and sugar cookies, an earthy woodsiness, and a little juniper/piney. Sipping and it’s dark and bright cherry, vanilla with a little oak chip, plums, blueberry, blackberry, and a pinch of sugar cookies with just the right amount of that twang to keep it vibrantly dancing on my tongue
delicious! FYI: tasted while watching The Book of Boba (and yes, I ❤️ the series & the ride it’s taking us on. Have heard the complaints and all I can say is…haters gonna hate…and kiss my Bantha).

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: it’s actually a really good fit.

Miles Garrett Wines is a family winery with a small team and also some additional WWOOFers. Call me behind the times, but WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) is new to me, so smart, needed and cool. It all started back in 1971 (U.K.), and in the U.S. from 2001. It’s a two way street of sustainable farming education. If you’re looking to learn about sustainable/organic farming while having a roof over your head and meals, they’ll find you a host. Pale gold pour with green undertones and super active bubbles. Pop, pop, pop and out of the bubbles come whiffs of apples, brioche, a squeeze of lemon and a basket of ripe pears. Tickling my tongue are lemons and limes smashed with red apples, pears and nectarines. Oh yum there’s also a edge of full on my granny’s butter poundcake yet it’s still crisp, and a little green bitter tinge on the back with some lime zest. Oh you light and happy fishy, you are such an easy drinker and will have me going glou glou all night!

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: ugh NO!

Dan and Jacqueline want to welcome all y’all to their “Sparkling Revolution”. Carboniste isn’t trying to masquerade as a champagne copy but instead embrace its California roots, weather, terroir & beautiful fruit. They’re also keeping the wines young, modern, clean, fresh, and fun…kinda like the aquatic friends on their bottles. Side note: I’ve been googling to find out who is their label artist (No luck! Well, whoever you are nice work!) and hilariously every other image is Han Solo in Carbonite. OMG there is a life-sized statue made from the original “Empire Strikes Back” molds and it’s signed by Harrison Ford! Yes, I am swooning now, and it can be mine for only $49.999.99 on eBay, but then think of all the bottles of bubbly I could get for that $$$. I guess I’m a grown-up now if wine is now more important than Star Wars. 🥂

“You need cooling. Baby I’m not foolin” Bright maroon-plummy-rose glass. Breathing plums, cherry, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries with a funky depth in the back. Loving it! A sip and then a gulp of fabulous! There’s bright cherry (tart and sweet), dinosaur plums, raspberries, blackberries, pomegranates, and (don’t laugh at me) a little SweeTarts and a handful of Skittles. It’s juicy, tart, and smooth  at the same time. A crisp and crunchy party in my mouth.

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: surprisingly lovely

One sip and you’ll know why the back label has “So Fresh” emblazoned on it. Whole beautiful uncrushed sangiovese bunches are left to ferment in stainless, and yes, I do love those bunches! It’s like a first kiss stolen. This is one of those wines you put on a flower wreath on your head and chase each other around and end up in a sweaty mess…or as Led Zeppelin said, Whole Lotta Love!

Delightfully dancing pale yellow green. Sniffing musky melon, lime, tangelo, kumquat, nectarine, and salty rock. Ooh that was lovely! Sipping lime and lemon, just a super tiny bit of fresh honeycomb, light white donut peaches, and surprise! a hint of coconut, and a lick of a river rock. Everything just smoothly balances and begs for shrimp tacos and some spicy guacamole.

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: doesn’t do a lot, so I vote no.

Steve & Jill Matthiasson didn’t inherit a vineyard or any of the often told tales, but they both had a love and destiny in sustainable farming in common, oh and also UC Davis. From what I’m reading, Steve’s journey got a kickstart as a kid in Canada being sent to his cousin’s, who had a wheat farm; and later in Arizona going to a school where the kids mingled with farm animals and had their hands in gardening. Who wouldn’t grow up in love with nature and respect for the critters that inhabit it with an education like that? So now with their vineyards and also ones they source from (such as grapes for their Tendu wines), everything is all about organic, sustainability, reducing carbon footprint, and considering their feathered and furred neighbors; yet it goes further than that…they consider everything they do, grow, etc. and their impact on the environment not only just locally but globally. If only everyone could think forward like them, maybe we could start digging our way out of our climate change mess.

This is 80s Merry-Go-Round electric orange pink pour. Oh the memories of that store! 🤣  Scents start emerging of cherry-strawberry cotton candy, roses, mandarin zest, a smidge of lemon-lime and some creaminess. Sip and whoo! A ripe juicy cherry strawberry watermelon cocktail, blood orange zest, and weirdly Muscadine grape (which is bizarre since it’s not). We had a small vineyard of these when I was growing up. The grapes were delicious. The wine my father attempted was not. Keep on going and there’s seltzer crispness and smoke. Let it BREATHE for a little and you will be rewarded. There’s so many scents and flavors that pop out of everywhere and some of them mellow out later. This is one fun Pét that is ready to soar!

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: adds the flavor of grapesicle…BLEAH! Dreadful!

I am going to admit, I fell for the label. It’s absolutely beautiful and as fun as the wine. Whoever the artist is for MOOA wine’s bottles is seriously talented. And yeah, I’m a huge David Bowie fan, so having this song in my head on repeat is a real treat.

Not At All What I Was Expecting

Crack the can and out pours a pretty orangey rose gold. I know there’s a fruit (probably a strawberry) in there somewhere, but I can’t believe I’m writing this…it smells like burnt rubber. No amount of off-gassing is going to save this…OMG! The taste is just the same. Oh lord! This was a gift from a friend (and I tried two cans with the same result), but I’m starting to wonder if they lost their sense of smell and taste. We are all still living with that still hanging over our heads.

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: no way this is going to make it any better

Ok, so I have no more info on this can than what you see. The Beach Blvd website isn’t working. I was really looking forward to this since cans come in handy in this hot weather, but…oh well…

NOTE: I have just poured it out, and see that it was canned on 7/19/19, so maybe that’s the reason!

Shimmering very light rose gold like my great, great, great (I lost count) grandmother’s ring passed down to me. Uncork and out flies grapefruit, yellow/red sweet plums, lemon, salty breeze, peach, yellow watermelons, and granite. Oh what a mouthful! My tastebuds are darting all over. There’s peaches, honeydew, yellow plums, lychee, pineapple, a squish of lemon to liven it up, salt, and chervil.

Pairs with Cheez-It’s: brings out cantaloupe. Just delightful

Andrew and Kim have a lot of pride and integrity in their small family owned, organic winery and farm. Always remembering Andrew’s dad’s words “making friends is our business”. As you can see on their site, there’s a kind and welcoming nature of this family with a long and famous Busch legacy. Their “Lilly” is a family name and honors not only the original Lilly Anheuser (who married Adolphus Busch) but also their 1st granddaughter. They also have an extended “farmily” which includes their Farmstead where you can pick up organic produce and local foods while checking out the roaming Kunekune pigs, goats, miniature donkeys, llamas, sheep, a rescue mini jersey cow named Peaches, a cute camel named George, Zazu the zebra, and Gus & Dolph their Budweiser Clydesdales. Seriously how cool is it that, they have a camel! Who wouldn’t want to stop here and become their friend.
