Brooklyn Black Ops Russian Imperial Stout 11.6%
Brooklyn Brewery

Consumed at Mugs Alehouse’s very last “Split Thy Brooklyn Skull XX”. Full admission, I remember loving this glass of chocolate and coffee goodness, but needless to say it was a long day with a lot of other strong beers, and memories became clouded. Wonderful day was had by all. A few were staggering halfway through, and I think there may have even been some others singing before the end. Here’s the round up from the menu: Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottles flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes.

Mugs, I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since you shuttered. One of the many happy memories I have of Mugs is meeting Jon and getting introduced to his band “Live Ones”. Check them out.

Italy and Spain Had a Baby

Pietro Beconcini
Ixe Tempranillo 2016
Toscana IGT

Beautiful ruby color. Take a breath. Cherry, warm spice that envelops you, plum, mineral/slate and a hint of leather. Time for sipping. Again there’s the cherry, plummy goodness. It’s tart and cola with peppercorns and yes my favorite granite. Opens up so smooth. Day two, it’s a juicy sweet (not like a sugar bomb but delicious sweet ) fruit friendly

Pietro Beconcini is the only Tempranillo wine grower in Italy. He found some old vines on his land and with a bit of investigation, discovered they may have been dropped off by ancient travelers. Maybe they were on a pilgrimage or on a trade route. Either way, I’m sure glad they did! It’s like Italy and Spain had a baby. Each sip makes me want to be sitting outside in a bar in Spain, but then also reminds me of long ago when I was studying in Cortona, Italy. Man, how my drinking days have changed. Back in the early 90s in Cortona, between classes we would grab a bite and as students do, grab a cheap beer, known as Splügen. Ah for the simpler days.

Pairs with Cheez-Its: It makes the wine have a darker feel. It’s delicious yet I can feel the good funk. Oh this is so good in bed with the cats snuggled near.

BEER MEMORIES 12.12.19

What a wonderful day, and one not so long ago, yet seems like an eternity. Sitting in Kaelderkold, drinking Basqueland Seven Minutes Siesta Salted Caramel Frappuccino Imperial Stout, and listening to Ministry and Nick Cave. What a perfect pairing. This was my first introduction to Basqueland Brewing and after looking through their site and FB page, they are one impressive operation. I love the fact that they are one of the breweries that joined in on Other Half’s worldwide collaboration “All Together” beer. The current count on the page is 792 breweries, 48 States in USA and 51 countries. An amazing drive to support the breweries and their local hospitality workers. Just damn beautiful!
